Mekong Delta - Enthusiastic Homestay

Day 1:  Ho Chi Minh City – Cai Be

If you want to experience life in the Mekong Delta, this tour is definitely for you! The program will start by visiting Cai Be colorful floating market and cruising among local barges full of fruits and vegetables. An optional stop can be made at local workshops where you will be able to observe how rice noodles, coconut candies, pop-rice/popcorns, spring rolls, and fish sauces are made. After this interesting morning, we will enjoy our delicious lunch at a local house.

 

After lunch, a rowing boat ride will take you deeper into the countryside on smaller canals in order to enjoy a peaceful moment. You will have the opportunity to see traditional houses made of wood and palm leaves as well as enjoy the local life scenes (fishermen catching fishes, farmers picking fruits…).

 

Continuing our day, we will visit the nursery garden where you will be able to meet and interact with famous farmers, Mr Tiger & his son, who are very successful in Vietnam’s agriculture. It will be a perfect moment to enjoy some local fruits and tea, while listening to traditional music at Ut Trinh’s home.

 

However, the afternoon would not be perfect without biking through the village paths to enjoy beautiful landscapes, local farms and houses. Returning to Ut Trinh’s home, you will cook some traditional dishes with the owners and enjoy dinner with a cup of tea or rice wine. This is the perfect opportunity to talk to the locals and ask questions about their culture and the history of the Island. Overnight stay in a private room at our host.

 

 

Day 2:  Cai Be – Vinh Long — Ho Chi Minh City

Enjoy a delicious breakfast before walking in the village and enjoy the fresh morning air. By boat, we will visit the brick kilns where we can see how local people create beautiful potteries from clay. Our boat will take you slightly further down to the floating village. You will have the opportunity to learn how to farm catfishes on the Mekong River. Upon arrival at Vinh Long City, we will visit the local market. This is definitely an amazing place to take pictures of the local life and fishes, shrimps, prawns, crabs, snakes, rice-field rats, tropical fruits, and more.
