Bat Trang, located on the Red River in northern Vietnam, has been an important ceramics center for centuries. The skilled artisans of Bat Trang village have been responsible for carrying on a tradition of making pottery that has a distinctive look.
This pottery village exports more than USD 40 million in ceramic goods annually, particularly dinnerware and ornamental ware. During this 3-hour tour you’ll see pieces being made, including bowls, dishes, pots, cups, wine jars, large vases, and big-bellied jars. Each piece is further distinguished by a glaze, such as an ancient pearl blaze, crackle glaze, dark glaze, indigo-blue flower glaze, grey flower glaze, or melt glaze.
Bat Trang’s celadon, crackle-glazed vases, and designs inspired by ancient times are popular around the world. In addition to observing the art of making ceramics by hand you’ll have an opportunity to visit family factories all over the village to find a special piece to take home.
