Jaji - The Andean Colonial Village

Jaji is a 400 year-old Andean village. The colonial quarter around Plaza Bolivar was renovated and is considered the most beautiful colonial quarter in the country. Coffee is still cultivated in the El Carmen Hacienda close to Jaji.

From Mérida you'll drive through the subtropical cloud forest of Sierra La Culata National Park where it is cloudy very often even in the dry season. First of all, you'll reach the colonial town of Jají. Here you'll visit the coffee plantation of hacienda El Carmen. From here you drive to the colonial village of Chiguara.

Half an hour away you'll find a huge cactus canyon where the dry season prevails the whole year. Finally, you'll visit the sugarcane plantation where the actual sugar extraction is carried out just like in times of Bolivar.
