If you close your eyes and think of New York during the winter, chances are you see twinkling lights, a golden statue and an ice rink filled with happy revelers. This festive city scene at Rockefeller Center has been popular since 1936, when the ice rink opened to the public. Only 150 people are allowed on the ice at a time, making for a chilly wait if you have general admission. With this VIP package, limited to only a select number of guests, you get to cozy up in a private chalet next to the rink, warming your belly with hot chocolate and Cucina & Co cookies as you wait for your turn. It’s a luxurious experience that one could imagine would have impressed John D Rockefeller.
Arrive at the ice rink at your choice of start time, and then head inside the heated VIP chalet. The area is draped in garlands and lights to give it a welcoming feel. Kids can play on the carpeted floors as adults mingle. When it’s your turn to hit the ice, a concierge can help you and your group put on your ice skates. Rental is included as part of the package. First timers can then take advantage of a short lesson on how to turn, twirl and stop.
On the ice, soak up the winter spirit as people skate around you. Stop along the railing to admire the bronze-gilded Prometheus and fountain, as soak up the ambiance of the world-famous Rockefeller Center at winter time. Should you need a break, simply hop on and off the ice to warm up in the chalet like a true VIP. Once you finish ice-skating, simply make your way out of the arena. Alternatively, upgrade to include lunch or dinner with reservations at the onsite Rock Center Café, a New York-style American grill. Feast on a delicious 3-course menu featuring specialties such as succulent skirt steak while enjoying views of the ice rink. A wide selection of wine, beer, soda and cocktails are available at your own expense.
