Board the Appledore II in the early evening and help the crew hoist the sails as you embark on your 2-hour cruise near Key West, Florida. The hand-built 86-foot (26-meter) tall ship is a two-masted wooden schooner commissioned by a couple, Herb and Doris Smith, who circumnavigated the globe in the boat more than 30 years ago. Today, the ship's time is split between Key West and the Maine area. Feel free to ask the crew to share their adventures on the 2,000-mile (3,220-km) voyage the ship makes between Maine and Key West twice a year.
Cross the southernmost point of the US and see Key West sights such as the Historic Seaport; Mallory Square's Sunset Celebration, a nightly arts festival; the Navy Mole pier where large ships dock; and Fort Zachary Taylor of the Civil War era. As you sail, try your hand at the captain's wheel and capture photos of the gorgeous Florida evening sky.
Kick back and relax with a glass of Champagne, homemade sangria, or other beverage, and savor artisan cheeses and fresh fruit. Your captain will make sure the Appledore II is in the best position for you to view a glorious Florida sunset. Your relaxing 2-hour sunset sail concludes at dusk.
