Jungle Island

Swing through the jungle and hang with its furry and flying inhabitants. Jungle Island, one of Florida’s founding theme parks, features exotic animals from around the world amidst the gorgeous, tropical Miami landscape. Families, couples and seniors all go wild for the wonders of Jungle Island.

Founded in 1936 as Parrot Jungle, the original owner created a natural space where exotic birds could fly free. This tradition continues in the park’s new location on Watson Island. Look up! Overhead you will see extraordinary, colorful birds living as nature intended. Parrots, peacocks, cockatoos and flamingos fly, dip and dive amid the lush jungle. More than 300 birds in a rainbow of colors live here.

Check out the talents of these birds during the Winged Wonders show. It’s a feathered cabaret with birds that sing, dance and soar. Watch out for the free-flying condor with an incredible 11-foot wingspan and the world’s most dangerous bird, the Oceania-native cassowary. Take a trip through the animal kingdom during Dr. Wasabi’s Wild Adventures. He’ll introduce you to a safari’s worth of animals from an alligator snapping turtle to baby Hamadryas baboons. Peruse Peru. The Manu Encounter takes you inside a reproduction of the Peruvian clay cliffs that shelter wild macaws, squirrel monkeys and other animals.

Wander the park’s leafy, covered trails to explore endless exhibits. You will be introduced to animals that seem to have stepped out of a 1950s sci-fi flick. The liger, for instance. Dad was a lion and mom a tiger and together they created a beast that is nearly 12-feet tall. The world’s largest cat will put to shame your kitty at home while the rare twin orangutans will show you that we aren’t too different from our tree-hugging, furry cousins. No doubt you will catch jungle fever during a full day of encounters at Jungle Island.
