Glassblowing Lesson in Skagway

Blow your own glass ornament at Jewell Gardens in Skagway! The perfect way to take home a piece of Alaska, this glassblowing experience provides instruction and demonstration by a talented glassblower and then allows you to create your own piece of art using old-world methods. You’ll also have time to explore the organic flower garden and tour the glass gallery, where stunning pieces of hand-blown glass are on display. The lesson is limited to six people, ensuring you enjoy a small-group experience.

Jewell Gardens is located just outside the northeastern edge of Skagway; make your own way there to begin your glassblowing experience.

When you arrive, you’ll be enchanted right off the bat by Jewell Gardens’ combination of natural and manmade beauty, where the colorful show garden provides inspiration for the artists’ glassmaking — and yours! Meet your gaffer (a nickname for a glassblower), who will introduce you to the ‘hot shop’ where the glassblowing takes place.

As you watch your gaffer demonstrate, learn about the ancient art of turning molten glass into vases, ornaments, dishes, jewelry and more. Under his or her watchful eye, blow your own glass ornament, a delicate souvenir that will always remind you of your Alaskan adventure.

Don’t worry about packing it and getting it home in one piece — Jewell Gardens will ship your ornament anywhere in the world, on the house.

Before you leave, take a guided tour of the glass gallery to see more pieces of hand-blown glass, and then end your experience by wandering around the organic flower and vegetable gardens. Or, check out the garden railway, where a model train from the White Pass & Yukon Route winds through a miniature version of Skagway and then travels through mountains and forests.
