The tour begins from your hotel at 9am. This tour will give you a chance to see first hand the 5 existing eco-systems of the everglades, starting with: Estuaries, pinelands, hardwood hammocks, praries and cypress systems. Our first stop will be the historical everglades city, the main supplier of stone crabs, which in the past excelled in bootleg whiskey and square grouper importation.
Next, our group will enjoy a comfortable boat ride out of the everglades national park. We will be exploring the ten thousand island (the home of the mighty Calusa Indians, who build their homes and temples on shell mounds) in a one and a half hour trip. Be sure to bring your own camera, as porpoise, giant manatees and a healthy bird life share these waters.
You will enjoy a great lunch at the nearby oyster house. The oyster house has captured the character of the area with its rustic charm and local catch-of-the-day fare.
After lunch we will continue out to another infamous and historical site called 'Ted Smallwood's Store'. Part of the store is a museum and is full of really neat artifacts of the past. This is also the location surrounding a true story of the killing of E.J. Watson back in 1910.
