We walk from Gracie Mansion, at E. 88th St. and East End Avenue, through Carl Shurz Park to the East River, and along it until we cross back over the Highway to the eastern end of Harlem, once the largest Italian Community in the United States. We see the Church of our Lady of Mt. Carmel, and walk through eastern Harlem to Rucker Park and 155th St. — across the Harlem River from Yankee Stadium.
We continue our walk along the Harlem River Drive, but in fact we remember the old Harlem Speedway of more than 100 years ago as we walk along the park that is the walkway along the Harlem River, and reach the wonderful East end of Dyckman Street, and the Peter Jay Sharp Boathouse at Swindler's Cove.
We rest in Ann Richards' Garden, and then resume our walk for the short interval to Isham Park, and finally the Indian Road Cafe at 218th Street and Indian Road, right near Inwood Park — within sight of Spuyten Duyvil and the Hudson River.
We return «downtown» via subway — or we branch off for our own private adventures here.
AdditionalCash may be needed for various refreshments along the way, just as a Metrocard would be useful for the return trip. Sunscreen is always advisable, and don't forget to take a camera.
Also, one may find it advisable to take a few bandaids or even an antibiotic should one incur a soreness or scratch.
