Glide down the Thames and see the wealth of landmarks that flank its banks while enjoying a delicious two-course lunch. The route from Westminster to Greenwich is a journey through London’s past, taking you from the heart of the city and its Roman origins as Londinium to the docklands from where it opened out to the world and became the nerve centre of a global trading empire.
The cruise lasts just under two hours and features a menu with traditional English favourites. Along the way, pass such sights as Big Ben and Palace of Westminster, the London Eye giant Ferris wheel and the site of first Roman crossing of the River Thames. Pass also the tallest building in Europe, the 87-storey Shard, and the glistening skyscrapers of the Canary Wharf financial district.
Enjoy an intriguing snapshot of the importance of the sea to London’s history as you sail past a full-size reconstruction of the Golden Hinde, the galleon used by 16th century pirate Francis Drake, and get a close-up view of a genuine WWII warship, the HMS Belfast.
The lunch includes a first course of lemon-roasted supreme of chicken with creamy leek, tarragon and mushroom sauce or baked wild mushroom, spinach, cranberry, hazelnut and brie pastry with cherry tomato and red onion confit, served with new potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Dessert is warm dark chocolate fondant with berry compote and vanilla sauce. Coffee and tea are included. There is also a children’s menu with roast chicken with penne pasta and the same dessert.
