Belfast Shore Excursion: Giant’s Causeway And City Sightseeing Tour
When your cruise ship docks, leave Belfast Harbour and travel north by luxury coach, passing along the scenic Antrim coast. Your first destination is the Giant’s Causeway – Northern Ireland’s incredible UNESCO-listed geological site. Dramatic cliffs stretch a distance of nearly 4 miles (6km) along the coastline, forming a series of bays peppered with the unique basalt columns that characterize the Giant’s Causeway.
After spending time admiring the rocks up close, head inside the Giant’s Causeway Visitor Experience and explore the center at leisure. Through exhibitions and galleries, the center explains the geological enigma of the site, as well as some of the more interesting myths that abound. As legend has it, the rocks were created as giant stepping-stones for the fabled Irish Giant Finn Mac Cool to cross the seas to Scotland!
Have lunch at the site (own expense), and then return to Belfast for your city sightseeing tour. On a route around the downtown streets, your driver will point out several top Belfast attractions that chart key events in its history, such as the Harland and Wolff shipyard where the Titanic was built and Stormont Parliament where major peace negotiations have been brokered. See poignant political murals as you pass through the Falls and Shankill neighborhoods, and learn of the Unionist and Nationalist groups who live here – separated on different sides of the Belfast peace wall.
After seeing several of the city’s countless highlights, your coach will return to Belfast Harbour where your tour ends.
