Bangkok’s crazy canals are the essence of Thailand, giving you that unmatchable mix of beauty and chaos, which has helped the city become known as the Venice of the East. Cruise aboard a motorised boat along the klongs, as the locals call them, that feed into the Chao Phraya River. The banks are dotted with homes and temples, some of which are simply breathtaking in bith their scope and beauty.
The canals around serve as a natural highway for many locals going about their everyday business, with all sorts of merchandise transported along them, in particular rice, to and from the paddies. Admire the wonderful Wat Arun, or Temple of Dawn, which thanks to its 70 metre-tall pagoda is one of Bangkok's most emblematic landmarks and the most famous of the more than 400 Buddhist temples and monasteries in the city.
Arrive at the Grand Palace, the vast complex made up of dozens of buildings, courtyards, halls, temples, pagodas, garden and even a miniature mountain. Among the most eye-catching attractions is the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, which was carved from one piece of solid translucent jade.
