During your stay in Madrid, we invite you to discover Toledo about an hour south of the capital. The city, a Unesco World Heritage Site, is situated on a rock in a bend in the River Tagus in the heart of ancient Castile. Toledo is one of Europe’s oldest settlements and is considered a museum city of great artistic beauty. It is also known as the City of Three Cultures where Christians, Muslims and Jews lived together.
Admire buildings from almost all periods of history such as Moorish, Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance and Baroque. The city was also home to the great painter El Greco who lived here during the 16th century. Visit the stunning cathedral, with its splendid architecture displaying the range of Spanish Gothic style. The interior also contains numerous art treasures such as stained glass windows, the choir, the main chapel, altarpieces, paintings by El Greco and much, much more.
The Alcazar of Toledo is another sight that cannot be missed. This fortress, which is located in the highest part of the city, houses the Army Museum and the Library of Castile and La Mancha. On Mondays, the tour visits the Cristo de La Luz Mosque instead of the Alcazar. At midday you can take a well-earned rest and enjoy either a tourist set-menu lunch or a typical Castilian meal. At the end of the day, you will be driven back to Madrid.
