For more than 500 years Seville Cathedral has proudly held some sort of record relating to its size so it’s fair to say that city’s full inventory of churches, convents and monasteries is world class and worthy of a tour itself. Join us for an informative and entertaining 90-minute panoramic walk to explore the roles played by Christianity, Islam and Judaism in the Seville’s history.

When it was finished in the 16th century, the cathedral supplanted Hagia Sophia as the world’s largest cathedral. It was supplanted by St Peter’s in Rome a century later but nothing could take away its record as the largest Gothic church. Your guide will explain the background of what is officially called the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See, which began life as a mosque during the Islamic caliphate. The most famous remnant of this former role is the 104 metre Giralda belfry, the bottom half of which was the mosque’s minaret. The Door of Forgiveness is also a relic of this era.

Discover the other religious buildings around the cathedral, including the baroque Archbishop’s Palace and the Convent of the Incarnation. Head for the beautiful Patio de las Banderas and on to Santa Cruz, which was the city’s Jewish Quarter until they were expelled from Spain in 1492. Its narrow streets and picturesque plazas are the depositories of countless stories. Walk along the Callejon del Agua and feel the weight of history as you make your way to the Plaza de los Venerables, the social heart of the district.
