Spend some time learning about the artistic movement that dominated architecture, design and the decorative arts in Catalonia and especially Barcelona at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries at the Museum of Catalan Modernism. This brand new museum, located in an old textile factory houses over 350 works of art by 42 of the most representative artists of Catalan modernism, in the disciplines of painting, sculpture, furniture design and decorative arts.
The Museum is situated in the old Sabra & Coats textile factory, itself a modernist building designed by Enric Sagnier and built between 1902 and 1904. You'll find works by Josep Llimona, Joaquim Mir and Josep Puig i Cadalfach as well as a room dedicated exclusively to the work of visionary architect Antoni Gaudi.
The collection of the MMCAT consists of a wide variety of works of art from different disciplines, housed on two different floors. On the second storey you can find an important collection of furniture with pieces made by Antoni Gaudi,as well as by other renowned cabinet makers such as Gaspar Homar and Joan Busquets. On the lower floor you will find an impressive collection of painting and sculpture with works by Hermen Anglada i Camarasa, Gaspar Camps i Junyet, Ramon Casas, Joaquim Mir, Santiago Rusiñol, Eusebi Arnau, Miquel Blay, Enric Clarasó, Lamber Escaler and Josep Llimona.
