It also houses the Abbey of Montserrat, a Benedictine Monastery with almost 1000 years of history.

After driving through picturesque little villages you will arrive at the incomparable setting of the mountain of Montserrat, rising majestically to 1235m. To get to the mountain we will climb almost 550m by the Montserrat Rack Railway, departing from Monistrol station. The train follows the remarkable contours of the mountains, providing you with unforgettable views over Montserrat and the surrounding countryside.

Montserrat is a unique natural park containing one of the country's most important museums and the shrine of the patron saint of Catalonia. Visit the Royal Basilica, housing the Moreneta or Black Madonna, a 12th Century Romanesque carving. The Basilica has been one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Spain for centuries. On some days the children's choir sings in the monastery at midday, and so you may be fortunate enough to catch one of their delightful performances.
