Montserrat at the afternoon

Get away from it all in this guided half-day coach excursion to the Mountains of Montserrat. You’ll pass through picturesque villages on the way out of Barcelona before you spot the unforgettable silhouette of the majestic Mountain of Montserrat, situated to the right of the River Llobregat at standing at 1,235m above sea level. Montserrat" literally means "jagged (serrated) mountain" in Catalan. It describes its peculiar aspect with multitude of rock formations which are visible from a great distance. This singular environment is a nature reserve and home to one of the most important museums in Catalonia as well as the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of the region. You will visit the Royal Basilica where the Moreneta is kept, a Romanesque wood-carving dating from the 12th Century. The Basilica has been one of the most important sites of pilgrimage in Spain for centuries. On certain days the Escolania (the oldest boys’ choir in Europe) may sing in the Monastery. The price also includes a tasting of 4 typical liqueurs produced at the Abbey and entrance to an Audio-visual exhibition. Once the visit is over, we will return to Barcelona by bus.
