Maria Luisa park visit

The Parque de Maria Luisa is a public park and gardens running along the banks of the River Guadalquivir. It holds a special place in the hearts of all of the inhabitants of this vibrant city as it is Seville's main green area. In this guided one-hour stroll around these beautiful landscaped gardens you'll learn all about the history of the Dukes of Montpensier and how they donated the gardens of the Palace of San Telmo to the city in 1893.

We'll stroll around the duck ponds and the 19th century Queen's Sewing Box, a folly-like building in the form of a small hexagonal castle with turrets at the corners. It was given this name after Maria de las Mercedes, the young wife of King Alfonso XII, who used to spend her time sewing here before her tragically early death. We'll also explore the botanical gardens with an extensive collection of trees from all over the world, especially the Americas.

After visiting the numerous fountains and landscaped walkways, the tour will end at the Plaza de America, much loved by generations of local children for its vendors of packets of birdseed for feeding the pigeons. Admire the Mudejar and Royal Pavilions housing the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Popular Art and Customs of Seville. All in all, a wonderful hour spent away from the hustle and bustle of the city as you learn about the aristocratic past of these magnificent gardens.

Meeting point: Portugal Pavilion at 12 am.
