Maestros de la Guitarra. Basílica Santa María del Pí

Listen to some of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written in settings that will long linger in your memory. Works by composers such as Albéñiz, Bizet, Falla and Rodrigo are performed by the world’s leading Spanish guitarists in four truly special venues. It’s not just about the music; it’s also about where you hear it.

Every night artists such as Manuel Gonzalez, Xavier Coll and Pedro Javier are producing the most sensual sounds in sensational settings. These masters of the Spanish guitar will dazzle you with outstanding performances that are the soundtrack to Gothic Barcelona.

The concerts are held in four ideal venues for listening to the Spanish guitar, which is a vital instrument in haunting melodies such as the Concierto De Aranjuez and passionate Flamenco dances. The acoustics allow the music to flow through you at the Gothic Sant Jaume Church, which dates from the 11th century. The crypt of 14th century Santa Maria del Pí is as intimate a setting as you could imagine, while the chapel of the same basilica is also used and is one of the untimate expressions of Gothic grandeur in Barcelona. Hold your breath for the final venue, the Palau de la Música Catalana. This modernist concert hall is a work of art in itself and is a Unesco World Heritage Site. The façade, the foyer, the staircase, the stained glass skylight, the stage – all are a feast for your eyes. And that’s before you’ve even heard the music… Venues: Palau de la Música: Carrer Palau de la Música 4-6; Basilica of Santa María del Pi: Plaça del Pi, 7; and Church of Sant Jaume, Carrer Ferran, 28. Show times: Daily at either 9pm or 9.30pm. Please check for your concert. Duration varies.
