Gaudi Plus Tour

Visit two of visionary architect Antoni Gaudi 's most important buildings in this in depth guided tour of Casa Mila and the amazing Colonia Guell and crypt. You will be accompanied at all times by a knowledgeable local guide who will give you fascinating snippets of information about the life and work of the great architect. Find out all about the magical creativity of this great artist and visit two of his World Heritage Sites in Barcelona.

The first stop is Casa Mila, also known as La Pedrera, located on the classy Passeig de Gracia. This amazing building was ahead of its times when it was built and has lost none of its avant garde character since then. You will find an exhibition on the life and work in the attic and will visit an apartment that has been fully restored and furnished in the style of the early twentieth century. The building itself is a reflection of the artistic and imaginative powers of Gaudi in his prime. The architect’s great creative freedom and imaginative ornamental designs are visible in every detail, from the wrought iron balconies, the painted frescoes and the roof terrace, known as the garden of warriors with its famous chimney stacks, bearing a resemblance to helmeted warriors.

Next we'll board an air-conditioned bus for the 12km journey to Colonia Guell, a model textile factory built by the Guell family, Gaudi's wealthy patrons. Gaudi was commissioned to build a church here and although it was never completed the crypt is an outstanding architectural achievement. Gaudi experimented with many features he was to use later on in his master work, the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia. Your guide will explain Gaudi's innovative search for synthesis between structural layout, building techniques and architectural forms as you admire the outstanding decorative elements using stained glass, ceramic mosaics, wrought iron and even seashells. You will also have plenty of time to explore the Colonia Guell itself, a textile factory built in the modernista style.
