This combo sightseeing tour will show you the main attractions and sights of the bustling, vibrant city of Barcelona. Visit the Gothic Quarter, the Old Harbour, Montjuic with its spectacular Olympic Ring and the Poble Espanyol. Then in the afternoon we'll head for the Benedictine Abbey of Montserrat, a traditional site of pilgrimage and home to a venerated Black Madonna, patron saint of Catalonia.
The tour starts in the Gothic Quarter, a maze of narrow streets surrounding the city' s Gothic Cathedral. We'll continue down to the old port, a recently renovated area, extending the city centre from the Rambla down to the sea. In this attractive area, popular with locals and tourists alike you'll find a wealth of restaurants, shops, nightclubs and frequent open-air entertainment.
Next we'll climb the Montjuic Mountain – enjoy the great views over the city and harbour and admire the spectacular sports facilities in the Olympic Ring. Our final visit is to the Poble Espanyol, a charming collection of replicas of streets, buildings and plazas from all over Spain. The area also houses many crafts shops and some excellent restaurants and bars. We'll then make the climb to Montjuic castle by cable car with some stunning views over the city and port before returning to our point of departure where you will have two hours for lunch.
Then in the afternoon we'll drive through rolling countryside and picturesque villages, heading for the magical mountain of Montserrat, its unforgettable looming massively on the horizon. We'll visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, which holds the famous 12th century Romanesque carving of La Moreneta, the Black Virgin. The Royal Basilica has been one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Spain for hundreds of years. The visit also includes a tasting of some liqueurs made by the monks and a fascinating audiovisual presentation.
