In this comprehensive tour you'll experience the best of modern and old Barcelona. But that's not nearly all. Climb to the summit of Montjuic by cable car. Then in the afternoon we'll head for the Benedictine Abbey of Montserrat, making the climb by rack railway with stunning views over the mountain and down to the plains below. Once there enjoy a glass of sparkling Catalan cava or a liqueur brewed by the monks.
The tour starts in the Gothic Quarter, a maze of narrow streets surrounding the city' s Gothic Cathedral. We'll continue down to the old port, a recently renovated area, extending the city centre from the Rambla down to the sea. In this attractive area, popular with locals and tourists alike you'll find a wealth of restaurants, shops, nightclubs and frequent open-air entertainment.
Next we'll climb the Montjuic Mountain – enjoy the great views over the city and harbour and admire the spectacular sports facilities in the Olympic Ring. Our final visit is a stop at the Poble Espanyol, a charming collection of replicas of streets, buildings and plazas from all over Spain. The area also many crafts shops and some excellent restaurants and bars. We'll then make the climb to Montjuic castle by cable car with some stunning views over the city and port.
Then in the afternoon we'll drive through rolling countryside and picturesque villages, heading for the magical mountain of Montserrat, its unforgettable looming massively on the horizon. We'll climb the mountain in the famous rack railway, following the contours of the mountain with exceptional views of the surrounding countryside.
The Royal Basilica of Montserrat, which holds the famous 12th century Romanesque carving of La Moreneta, the Black Virgin. The Royal Basilica has been one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Spain for hundreds of years. The visit also includes a tasting of some liqueurs made by the monks or a glass of cava and entrance to an audiovisual presentation.
