Tretyakov State Gallery Private Walking Tour

The Tretyakov Gallery was founded by in 1856 by Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov, a Moscow merchant who had acquired a collection of works by the top Russian artists of the 19th century.

The gallery grew quite quickly and by 1892, when the collection had grown to 2,000 works and had become well known, Tretyakov presented the gallery to the state.
