This tour is offered in two options - a visit to the Main museum building with works by old masters OR a visit to the Gallery of Art from the Countries of Western Europe and America of the 19th and 20th centuries. Please indicate in the comment which option you prefer.
Option 1. Main Building
The main museum building was constructed in 1898-1912 in accordance with the latest requirements of building technology and museum design. Today the building contains the departments of the art of Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, the Middle Ages, the Italian Renaissance represented by plaster casts. The most important and valued department here is that of European art of the 17th, 18th and early-19th centuries. It contains works by masters from several national schools – Italian, Spanish, French, Dutch and Flemish. Among the famous names are Rembrandt, Rubens, Snyders, Van Dyck, Jordaens, Canaletto, Boucher
Option 2. Gallery of Art from the Countries of Western Europe and America of the 19th and 20th centuries
This is a new department within the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts which opened its doors to the public in August 2006. This extra building enabled the museum to put on display a great number of masterpieces from 19th-20thcenturies. There are whole galleries devoted to individual trends in European art or to the work of a single artist. Here you can see works by Delacroix, Goya, Corot, Courbet, Millet and many others. The pride of the museum are works by French impressionists, post-impressionists and masters from the early-20th century:
Monet, Renoir, Sisley, Pissarro, Degas, Cézanne, Gauguin, van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Matisse, Picasso, Derain and Rousseau. Here you can also find works by representatives of other European schools as well as works by American artists. Alongside canvases by Kandinsky, Chagall and de Chirico hang pictures by Funi, Hofer, Casorati, Grundig, Beringer and Kent. Works by major European sculptors are also on display – Barye, Rodin, Maillol, Bourdelle, Zadkine and Arp.
