The Real Castle of Dracula - day tour from Bucharest

Visit Poienari Castle and the ancient capital of Wallachia  Poenari Castle, also known as Poenari Citadel, is a ruined castle in Romania, notable for its connection to Vlad III the Impaler aka Dracula. It was the most important of Vlad's strongholds saving his life numerous times.

Curtea de Arges is a city in Romania on the right bank of the Arges River, where it flows through a valley of the lower Carpathians. The name, literally The Court upon Arges refers to the former status of the town as the capital of Wallachia.

1. Curtea de Arges — is one of the oldest towns in Wallachia, it was the capital of a small local state which was the start for the unification of the lands south of the Carpathians. The oldest archeological evidence of it being the seat of such a ruler date from the 13th century.

Take a walking tour of the town visiting: the Princely Church and Old Court ruins, the Episcopal Church, and the unique Olari Church a painted church from Moldavia found on Wallachian grounds.

2. Poienari Castle & Fortress is placed on the highest cliff around Arges gorges at 850m. It is surrounded by a spectacular landscape and to get there we will climb the 1480 steps.
