Lisbon: on the Tagus river

The journey begins on the opposite bank of the Tagus River, in Almada. Here is the Christ-King monument created in semalhança of Christ  Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. Rising over 100 meters above Tagus River and about 110 meters high, this monument is aviewpoint privileged to Lisbon.

Returning to Lisbon, we head to the Parque das Nações the trendiest area of the city. Here we will visit the Lisbon Oceanarium. Created for Expo 98, this is the second largest oceanarium in the world. Also in the Parque das Nações, we suggest a walk near the Tagus River.

This area is also ideal for lunch.

After lunch, we follow the Tagus until one of the most iconic Lisbon area: Belém. Here we suggest a walk through the area, stopping in the Casa dos Pastéis de Belém, or the visit to the following monuments:
Jerónimos Monastery — World Heritage by UNESCO and one of Portuguese Seven Wonders. Builted by King D.Manuel I in the 15th century to dedicate it to Santa Maria de Belém.This monument is the epitome of Manueline architecture, one of the largest monasteries of the country and Europe. With a facade of 300 meters, stands out its magnificent interior, the cloister and the south door (facing the Tagus River).
Padrão dos Descobrimentos — monument builted for the Portuguese World Exhibition to honor the participants of the Portuguese Discoveries. With the shape of a caravel, from the various sculptures stands out of Prince Henry, the mentor of the discoveries made ​​by the Portuguese kingdom.
Belém Tower — World Heritage by UNESCO and one of the Portuguese Seven Wonders, Belém Tower was part of a system of fortifications to defend the Tagus River. Built by King D. Manuel I, its beauty lies in its exterior decoration of the Manueline style, ropes and knots carved into stone towers decorated with the armillary sphere, the cross of the Order of Christ. It stands out in the decoration of a sentry of the sculpture of a rhinoceros.

Before returning to Sao Martinho do Porto will make a passage for the following locations: Praça do Comércio, Baixa Pombalina, Largo do Carmo, Rossio, and Avenida da Liberdade.
