Beginning at Peniche, a fishing town, we will visit the Peniche Fortress, which was built in 1557, by the KingD. João III. The building had various uses, but his last function was being a prison for political prisoners until 1974.
Leaving the Peniche Fortress, we proceed to the Cabo Carvoeiro, with a wide range of cliffs; especially a rock formation called«A Nau dos Corvos» one of the City icons.
The journey continues towards the medieval town of Óbidos, witness to centuries of history through the historical and religious heritage. Here you can see the landscapes that can be seen from the walls, walk through the medieval streets and admire the houses.
Towards the Atlantic Coast, we pass byLagoa de Óbidos, the largest lagoon of the Portuguese coast, with an area of about 6.9 km2 and an average depth of 2mt.
Through the Atlantic road, we go to S. Martinho do Porto –, known for its bay with a perfect shell. Continuing the journey along the sea coast, where we will toward the beach of Nazaré, a picturesque fishing village. Sítio da Nazaré is the main point of attraction of the village, not only for the historic place, but also for place that commemorates the miracle of Nossa Senhora da Nazaré, the Holy Virgin who gave name to the place, but also by the spectacular viewpoint that provides a glimpse of one of the most beautiful maritime landscapes in the region.
The promontory that protects the entire beach has at its extreme theForte de São Miguel Arcanjo, a privileged viewpoint of the sea and to the famousPedra do Guilhim.
