Colonial & Modern Lima + Larco Herrera Museum

Stroll around Miraflores where ancient inhabitants of the valley built the stunning adobe pyramid of Huaca Pucllana. Take a walk around the romantic Parque del Amor and enjoy the views of the Pacific, with the dry cliff overhanging rocky beaches below offering an impressive photo opportunity.

The main highlight is a visit to the Larco Museum, which is housed in an 18th-century colonial building built over a 7th-century pyramid. It showcases chronological galleries that provide a thorough overview of 4,000 years of Peruvian pre-Columbian history. The Gold and Silver Gallery feature the largest collection of jewellery used by native chiefs. Ancient Peruvian cultures represented their daily lives in ceramics, and this gallery holds the world's largest collection of erotic ceramics.

Continue on to Lima’s historic centre, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Admire the long, wooden balconies once used by flirty ‘tapadas’; the name given to women who would hide their faces with silk and only leave one eye on show. This symbol of secrecy attracted visitors many years ago and the purpose was to see and not be seen. Feast your eyes on the attractive colonial buildings surrounding the Plaza Mayor and take in the impressive architecture of the Renaissance-baroque Cathedral. Other highlights include the Presidential Palace, City Hall and the Archbishop’s Palace.

Continue San Francisco Monastery and admire the impressive main portal and the underground catacombs. At the end of the tour you will have an opportunity to shop at the colourful Indian Market, where the locals buy their Peruvian goods.
