Chan Chan is an archaeological site located in the Peruvian region of La Libertad; this vast adobe city was built by the Chimu culture around 850 AD.
The visit begins at the Temple of the Rainbow or Huaca “El Dragon” of the Chimu culture (XI to XV AD) whose quadrilateral form is surrounded by a trapezoidal wall 6 meters high. Then we continue with the tour to the Site Museum of Chan Chan, which displays models of the Moche & Chimu architectural style, and a sound and light presentation. Then we visit the impressive archaeological complex of Chan Chan, whose length is approximately 18 km2. The Tschudi Palace, located on the south west of Chan Chan is one of the nine best preserved; its walls are decorated with stylized friezes in high relief with zoomorphic and geometric figures. Next we have a ceremonial walk around its squares, temples, reservoirs, granaries, the Board of the Council of Elders, cemeteries, etc. The tour ends with the visit to the ancestral Huanchaco fishing cove where we will see the famous reed boats.
