Old Muscat Adventure

Today we are going to take an easy short hill and wadi walk from Riyam to Muttrah. The tour allows spectacular views over the sea and coastline.
We start our tour at Fish Market and continue to Riyam village. An old, rusty diesel pipeline is evidence of a time when the only power station in Oman was located in Riyam and supplies of diesel oil were pumped through the pipeline from a ship anchored at Murrtah.

We will start our jorney at the well-placed stone stabs leading up the hill. They have been used by countless generations of visitors from Muttrah and the interior, to help them climb the last hills before they entered the gates of Muscat. At that time, the only way to get to Muscat was by sea or over this path.

At the end of the tour we visit the Fort and Souq of Muttrah.
