Bay of Islands Shore Excursion: Sightseeing Cruise

Find out why the Bay of Islands is one of the most popular destinations in New Zealand while you’re in port at Paihia. Take a 2-hour boat excursion where you’ll be escorted in comfort past landmarks such as Black Rocks, Roberton Island (Motuarohia) and a variety of island landscapes, while local experts share commentary about the area’s ecological and historical features. You’ll also stop at one of the bay's most beautiful islands where you can swim or relax on the beach.

When your cruise ship docks in Paihia, hop aboard a 2-hour boat tour to see New Zealand's scenic and historically significant Bay of Islands. You’ll take the courtesy shuttle from your ship’s dock at Waitangi Wharf to the tour’s departure point at Maritime Wharf, a pleasant 5-minute drive along the coast. Once on the boat, you’ll cruise out to catch the highlights of the Bay of Islands.

As you glide through the sheltered waters of the Bay of Islands, your knowledgeable crew will share commentary about local history and wildlife. Look for the abundant marine life in these waters, including whales, dolphins, seals, penguins, and sea birds. You’ll see the dramatic seascape of Black Rocks and other rocky outcrops. Then have a short stop on an island where you can relax at a secluded beach.

Throughout your tour, a guide will share the significant history of Bay of Islands: the first permanent British settlement was established here and, in 1840, the Treaty of Waitangi–considered the founding document of the nation–was drawn up and signed here.

You’ll cruise past highlights like Roberton Island (Motuarohia) where Captain Cook was the first European to visit (in 1769) and a number of archaeological sites have been found.

After a scenic and informative 2-hour tour, you’ll be returned to Paihia.
