Contemporary Amsterdam

The KNSM isle is a living area in the former easternharbourofAmsterdam. It has been named after the Royal Dutch Steamship Company, that used to be established here. In 1977, the KNSM departed and the city nomads, young artists and squatters took over the area in the eighties. A decade laterAmsterdamstarted urban renewal projects in the area and a new living area has been erected, whose splendour can be compared with the Eastern Docklands inLondon.
