Discover the mysteries of the Yucatan on a visit to Rio Secreto Nature Reserve, with an option to upgrade your tour to include Tulum. Enjoy an exciting afternoon adventure at Rio Secreto, where you'll wade and swim through an underground river and encounter the stillness of a crystal cave. If you choose, spend your morning at the ruins of Tulum, a Mayan fortress situated on the coast of the Caribbean Sea. You can select hotel pickup and drop-off, or meet your guide at a central location in Cancun.
Your guide will either pick you up at your hotel, meet you at Plaza Kukulkan or transfer you from your morning tour in Tulum (depending on which option you select) before departing for Rio Secreto Nature Reserve in the afternoon. Upon arrival, you'll receive a safety briefing and equipment - including wetsuit, life vest, water shoes and a hardhat with lamp - before your expedition begins!
Follow your guide into Rio Secreto's underground cave, and admire the stunning crystal-like stalactites and stalagmites as you walk along a path and swim through the turquoise water. Venturing deep inside the cave, take in the peaceful stillness amid the dramatic mineral formations and vivid colors of your pristine surroundings.
When you emerge, enjoy a shower at Rio Secreto's facility or hang out for a bit in a hammock before returning to the plaza or your hotel.
If you choose to upgrade your tour to include Tulum, your guide will pick you up at your hotel or Plaza Kukulkan in the morning (depending on the transport option you select) and transfer you to the world-famous archeological site before heading to Rio Secreto Nature Reserve.
At Tulum, begin with a 45-minute guided walk to visit the main structures such as El Castillo, The Temple of Frescoes and the Temple of the Descending God. At the Temple of the Frescoes, used by the Maya as an observatory for tracking the movements of the sun, visit the lower gallery and a smaller second-story gallery.
Your expert guide will describe each attraction in the ancient walled fortress, once used as a port for the Mayan empire and inhabited by nobles, high priests and astronomers. Learn about the significance of Tulum, a Mayan word for 'wall,' as you visit the buildings, originally covered with brilliant paintings and carvings.
You'll admire breathtaking views of the Yucatán Peninsula and Caribbean Sea from the high cliffs. Then, enjoy an additional 45 minutes of free time to explore on your own and take photos before transferring to Rio Secreto to begin your underground adventure! Additional Info
