Sg. Lembing a tin mining area was once the richest town in Pahang due to its mining operations where about 1500 people were employed by the Pahang Consolidated Company Limited which was under the British control at that time. It was also once the largest, deepest and longest mine in the world with a tunnel length of 322km and a depth of 700 meters. In the late 18th century, tin was a very essential part of commodity and it was also known as the ‘Black Gold’. People came to settle down from far away – China. As population increased, wooden shops started to mushroomed, the township began with higher density and houses sprung up. Today many of the wooden shop houses that were built about a century ago are still intact and it is now a showcase of its glorious days.
