Situated on the Nairobi River, the city is not only the largest and fastest growing city in Kenya, but one of the largest in Africa. Nairobi is known as the safari capital of Africa, however the city has still managed to keep up with modernization. Unlike other cities, Nairobi is surrounded by 113 km² (70 mi²) of plains, cliffs and forest that makes up the city's Nairobi National Park. The city is filled with many things to do during the day and the night. Tourists can have their pick from numerous safaris (wildlife, cultural, sport, adventure, scenic and specialist), ecotourism tours, restaurants, culture, shopping and entertainment.

Day 1: Culture in Nairobi

Begin the day with morning prayer at the Jamia Mosque in city center. Enjoy a steaming cup of masala tea before hopping a matatu to Nairobi National Museum. Explore Kenya’s cultural diversity and eclectic past before venturing to the Karen Bixen Museum. On this vast plantation history becomes even more real. Wander the grounds where Out of Africa was filmed and explore the home where this iconic author penned her famous book. Finish the day walking the streets of Kibera, the largest slum in Africa.

Day 2: Nairobi's Natural Wonders

Grab breakfast at one of the city’s numerous cafes and head to Uhuru Gardens Memorial Park, where the grassy hillside provides perfect views of Nairobi waking up. Then drive to David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust for an hour-long presentation on the rehabilitation of elephant orphans. After experiencing these young ones in captivity, head to Nairobi National Park, where the Big Five wander just 20 minutes outside the city center, and enjoy a safari within view of skyscrapers.

Day 3: Day Trips from Nairobi

Rise early to catch sunrise at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint on the way to the gates of Masai Mara. Spend several hours touring the park, where two million wildebeests migrate between July and October. Stop by a Masai Village to taste local food and learn about the culture and traditions of East Africa’s most recognized tribe before returning to the lit up skyline of Kenya’s capital city.
