Description

Jerash are currently not running their Chariot and Gladiator show until further notice, we can arrange some other special experiences such as lunch with a Jordanian family or a hot air balloon ride over Wadi Rum. We still think it is worth visiting Jordan as a family and a visit to Jerash with a guide is a superb experience even if you don't get to see a Gladiator or two! Speak to our Jordan specialists more information.

Being only a short 5-hour flight from London, Jordan offers the perfect getaway for families. Your journey begins in the capital, Amman, where you will visit the Roman city of Jerash, once a significant trading hub in the Eastern Roman Empire and now a beautifully preserved reminder of the grandeur of Roman architecture and way of life. For families, Jerash offers a recreated chariot race in the Hippodrome along with a demonstration of Roman Soldiers and gladiator fights. You will return to Amman and take a walking tour with a guide through some of the more interesting parts of Amman, offering the chance to learn about the city’s heritage and customs.

You will then drive to Petra, which was made famous in ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’ and essential for pre-holiday viewing to get children into the spirit of adventure! You will enter Petra on horseback, before walking into the site with your own guide and visiting some of the more remote tombs and facades which Petra has to offer.

You will then drive out to Wadi Rum, where you will drive by 4x4 into the Desert stopping off at sand dunes where children (and parents) can enjoy the wonderful sensation of dune running! After watching sunset in the desert you will drive to your our camp in the middle of the desert where your family will spend the night under the stars, for families wanting exclusivity we can make the camp completely private, or there will be only a maximum of 4 tents erected at the camp. For many this is the highlight of your time in Jordan. The camp manager will prepare a BBQ, after which you can relax around the fire drinking tea, playing cards and chatting, before you retire to your comfortable private tent for the night — the camp has been custom designed to offer the best standards possible.

Your journey concludes in the Kempinski Ishtar on the Dead Sea, a hotel which has a Kids Club, Tennis Courts and 9 Swimming Pools. It is the perfect end to an action packed and memorable week away.

When to travel

For a small country, Jordan has an extraordinary range of climates. The best time to visit climate-wise is in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the daytime temperatures aren't too extreme. April is probably the best month, when temperatures are warm and wildflowers are in bloom. March can be cold and rainy in the north but is balmy by the Gulf of Aqaba and the Dead Sea.

Amman, Petra, Wadi Rum & Dead Sea

The Four Seasons, Amman is located on Al-Kindi Street between the prestigious Al Sweifiyah residential area and the Shmeisani financial district, in the heart of Jordan’s bustling capital city, Amman. From there you will then head south to The Mövenpick Resort Petra which is located directly at the entrance to the historic city of Petra. Petra lies about 3.5-hours south of modern Amman, about 2-hours north of Aqaba, on the edge of the mountainous desert of the Wadi Araba, where you will 1 night at the Wadi Rum Desert Camp. After a night in the desert you will head to Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea which sits at the lowest point you can get to on Earth while remaining on its surface, at the north end of the Dead Sea, east of the West Bank. Needless to say, it is central to some of the most pivotal sites in Western and Middle Eastern history, including the baptism site of Jesus Christ, the ancient city of Jerash, and the Lost City of Petra.
