Boldt Castle Cruise

No trip to the 1000 Islands is complete without visiting one of its most famous locations. The Boldt Castle Stopover Cruise takes you on a five hour journey along the picturesque St Lawrence River and gives you two full hours to explore Boldt Castle, the site of the most tragic love stories of the Islands’ history.

Cruise through the American span of the Thousand Islands before your two-hour stopover on Heart Island where you will experience the romantic legend of Boldt Castle. At the turn-of-the-century, George Boldt, the millionaire proprietor of the world famous Warldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, promised to declare his love for his wife Louise through a grandiose architectural feat. Work began on a full size Rhineland Castle on picturesque Heart Island. In 1904, tragedy struck: Louise had suddenly died. The heartbroken Boldt telegraphed the island and commanded all work to stop immediately. He never returned to the island and left the castle to ruin.
Over seventy years later, The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority decided to restore the castle and continue its construction. It now stands proud, a monument of Boldt’s love for Louise. The 120 room, six storey castle is now open to exploration and no expense has been spared on the magnificent decoration of this extraordinary structure.
After two hours, re-board the cruise vessel and end your journey cruising the breathtaking Canadian span of the Thousand Islands, admiring the diverse wildlife and the beautiful natural scenery of the archipelago.

Others: Admission to Boldt Castle is not included. Tickets can be purchased directly at the Castle. All passenges require a valid passport. Canadian and American citizens require proof of citizenship. This is in the form of a passport or a birth certificate (if a birth certificate is used it must be accompanied by at least one piece of government identification, (i.e. driver's license, health card, military I.D.). A driver's license or a health card or social insurance card alone does not prove citizenship. All other visitors will require a passport and a valid Canadian and United States entry visa. Passengers must show appropriate documents to the Gananoque Boat Line personnel prior to exchanging voucher for tickets.Passengers must carry their documents with them at all times while onboard. Please note anyone requiring an entry visa, one can be obtained at any border crossing at a cost of $6.00 American and the border will not accept Canadian funds.
