Walking Tour

Explore the most famous sites of Florence’s ancient culture.  Tread in the tantalizing footsteps of over 2000 years of history.  The tour lasts approximately three hours.  Beginning in Piazza della Repubblica, the ancient center of the city, we will then set forth to examine the city center where one will find the Bapitistery, Duomo, and Cathedral, all of which are decorated with elaborate facades often characterized by their marble panels.  Along the way towards Dante’s home, we will stop for gelato or rather artisan Italian ice cream.  There will be a view of the Bargello Palace, a former prison.  Next we will walk to Palazzo Vecchio famous for its civil architecture, the location of the guilds, and the Medici family political court.  Then, in Piazza della Signoria, you will observe an open museum of many statues including the copy of Michelangelo’s David as well as many other noteable works.   We will then pass into the wings of the Uffizi Gallery, an example of Mannerist architecture as well as one of the most impressive art collections in the world.  Following the Arno River, we will walk toward Ponte Vecchio, a bridge famous for its gold jewelry shops.  Finally, we will end the tour by stopping in front of the Palazzo Pitti.
