Your meeting point is at the Basilica of San Domenico in Siena at 9:30am, easy to find even if you are arriving from out of town. Here you will meet the driver guide for the start of the tour.
We start by taking the ancient roman road Cassia towards the famous wine hill of Montalcino. The first stop is at a small and particular winery where we can walk among the vineyards, explore the cellars and enjoy an introductory tasting of the famous Brunello wine. Arrive in Montalcino, the hill-town that gives its name to the region and its wines. Here you have the opportunity of climbing the walls of the fortress where the brave soldiers of the republic of Siena made their last stand against Florence and the Medici. Spend time visiting the towns stores, tasting the Brunello wines in the many wine bars or simply wander around the city and enjoy the incredible views overlooking the valleys and vineyards below.
Before lunch we stop to visit the stunning ancient mystical abbey of Sant Antimo, a special place set in fabulous landscapes which permeate peace and tranquility, one of the true wonders of Tuscany. Whenever possible, experience the monks’ magical chanting. Enjoy the nature surrounding this abbey. We then our way to a family run winery where we are introduced to the owners and winemakers, we visit the farm before sitting down to enjoy a traditional Tuscan meal accompanied by the delicious wines produced there.
In the afternoon we visit a third winery where you are shown around the estate, learning about the winemaking processes off the winemaker and savour a last tasting of this nectar of the gods. Of the 230 such wineries of the area, we always choose small and medium sized wineries driven by the belief that they make more characteristic artisanal wines, that are harder to find and, to us, more complex and interesting than the mass produced wines of the larger wineries.
In some occasions, due to availability or last minute changes, the itinerary might vary a little. In this case the tour could be modified slightly. However the day will maintain a similar general imprint, same duration and have all the same inclusions.
