Take the City Sightseeing bus tour of Trieste and enjoy 360 degree panoramic views of the city
Trieste, in North East Italy, has a remarkable history in a particularly beautiful setting with a unique combination of shining white rocks, blue sea and green countryside. The town was, for a while, the residence of famous Irish writer James Joyce. Once a very influential and powerful centre of politics, literature, music, art and culture, Trieste is a fascinating and captivating city. There are many sights to see including the Museo Revoltella, which today houses one of Italy’s finest collections of 19th-century, modern and contemporary art. Or hop off at the Museo di Storia or the Arte e Orto Lapidario (Museum of History and Art and Lapidary Garden).
There is plenty to discover in this beautiful history
Take the bus tour to the Arco di Riccardo, an Augustan gate built in the Roman walls in 33 A.D. which stands in Piazzetta Barbacan, in the narrow streets of the old town. Admire San Giusto — Cathedral and Castle and the famous Miramare Castle with its impressive chambers, throne room, beautiful park and restored stables. Drink in the city’s rich history at The Roman Theatre ruins or enjoy fantastic views from Il Faro della Vittoria (Victory Lighthouse). Either climb the stairs to the top or take the lift and look out at the exquisite landscape.
Hop on and off at your leisure at conveniently located stops around the city
Stroll through the awe-inspiring Piazza dell’Unita d'Italia at the centre of the city. Here you will discover the city hall, magnificent governor palace and tourist office. It is the only main square in Europe that is open to the sea. Barcola is the main promenade in the city and is not merely a seaside district. It is a large Catholic parish, a strong Slovenian community and offers the best walks in the city. Take the bus tour to the Barcola which is popular all year round and locals enjoy sunbathing here in the height of the summer.
