Archaeologist For One Day

Become protagonist of “A journey through time” with the experience promoted by the Centre of experimental Archaeology: for all those who want to be captured by the charming history of archaeology. This centre is located in the suggestive and uncontaminated countryside in the district of Viterbo, area which is characterized by protohistoric house reproductions and is divided into thematic areas dedicated to archaeology and nature. This area gives the opportunity to relive ancient history. Young and adults will be divided into groups and will take part in workshops on particular archaeological issues: coins coinage (small old roman coins), etruscan cosmetics, parietal paintings, clay manufacturing with the stamp technique and realization of a roman lamp, mosaic art and realization of a roman mosaic.

9.30 am: arrival at the Centre. Beginning of activities: short lesson about the beginnings ofRomeand the shift from the Etruscan to the Roman culture;

13.00 lunch break – packed lunch

14.30 resumption of the experimental archaeology activities: archaeometallurgy lesson. Fusion of bronze in stone stamps to create a roman coin (aes signatum or aes grave); a short introduction to the theory of coinage and workshop on the coinage of a small old roman coin;

Workshop on the clay manufacturing with the stamp technique and final realization of a roman lamp.
