Amarone Wine Tour
The Valpolicella is a valley located between Lake Garda and Verona. It is famous for its wines from the past. It seems that the name Valpolicella origins from ancient Greek and means valley of the many cellars. Today it is well known for its famous wines: Amarone and Recioto. The landscape is breathtaking with its classical villas surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and orchards.
The excursion starts with a visit to a typical cantina of this area set in a building from the XV century. We arrive from the small scenic road winding through the vineyards. Here, weather permitting, we will tour the vineyards with the owner that will talk to us about the area’s grape growing techniques and, after a brief description of the wines winemaking process, we will start with the wine tastings of the Valpolicella’s classic wines: Valpolicella, Ripasso della Valpolicella, Amarone and Recioto. The wines will be paired with small tastes of local “salumi” and cheese. Your wine tasting will be led by the vineyard owner along with your Guide, who is a sommelier and master cheese taster.
Next we will take a scenic drive as we head to a typical restaurant of the area, where we will have a light lunch with tradional dishes and wine.
After lunch we will visit another cantina, along with the traditional building where the grapes for the Amarone and Recioto are withered before the vinification. After a short visit to the ancient (XVII century) flour mill, we will have the second wine tasting of the same famous wines of this area, again, paired with some cheese and salumi of this area. Together with your guide you will discuss the differences and similarities of the wines from these two different producers.
