See Delhi's iconic Mughal sites with an English-speaking guide on this full-day tour. Mingle with locals as you take the metro train from Karol Bagh to Old Delhi. Walk to Delhi's largest and most famous mosque, Jama Masjid, built in 1656. With a passion for architecture, Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned the building of the Jama Masjid, as well as the Taj Mahal. The courtyard of Jama Masjid can hold up to 25,000 worshipers.
Then pass by the lively local markets as you make your way to the Red Fort. This 17th-century fort complex served as the residence for the imperial family of India. The architecture of the Red Fort is a mix of Persian, European and Indian styles and is characterized by a sophisticated level of ornamental work and richness in expression and color. The stunning design represents the peak of Mughal creativity; the fort was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007.
After your visit to the Red Fort, enjoy some delicious Mughlai dishes at a local restaurant. Continue on to southern New Delhi to visit Humayun's Tomb and Qutub Minar. The tomb is distinctive for being the first structure in Delhi to use red sandstone and the first garden-tomb in India.
