Chopta Tungnath Trek

Overview

Tungnath is short and easy trek which runs parallel to the sky-scraping Himalayan Treks. Tunganath is the highest temple of Garwal. During this hiking, one can enjoy clear view of majestic peaks of Panchchuli, Nanda Devi, Nilkanth and Kedarnath. Chopta gives a picturesque view of the Himalayas. In the early spring the Rhododendron forests glow red as the flowers bloom. Our journey will start from Haridwar, in Haridwar we will visit the famous Mandakini Valley, the river and lake. Then we will visit Chopta, which is surrounded by dense forests. From Chopta, we will start for Tungnath and Chandrashilla Top (Our last destination).

The summit of the Chandrashilla peak provides a breathtaking 360 degree view. (Views, which go far beyond the simple «view of mountains».

Itinerary

Day 01: Overnight train to Haridwar

Take the overnight Mussoorie Express (10:15pm) from Delhi to reach Haridwar early in the morning.

Day 02: Drive Haridwar — Sari and trek to Devariyatal (2440m) 5-6 hrs drive and 2 hrs walk.

A 5- 6 hrs drive will take us to Devariyatal. While going towards Devariyatal, the road goes along the Alaknanda River before entering the Mandakini valley. It’s a gradual uphill climb all the way up to the striking lake of Devariyatal.

Day 03: Trek Devariyatal — Chopta (3000m) 6-7 hrs.

On third day, a drive of 6-7 hrs will bring us to Chopta. This trail goes through the intense forest and stays on the edge all the way to Tali. From here we descend for a while to cross a stream and then climb up gradually to reach Chopta. It is situated in a tranquil setting. It has beautiful meadows surrounded by dense forests.

Day 04: Trek Chopta — Tungnath (3680m) — Chandrashilla Top (4130m) — Chopta.

On this day, start early in the morning and climb up to the temple of Tungnath. There is one Shiva temple which is the highest temple in Garhwal and has definitely a certain mystical/religious feature which is quite based on the spectacular surrounding and views from there.

Day 05: Drive Chopta – Hardwar 6-7 hrs and take a train to Delhi

Drive to Haridwar and take the evening Shatabdi Express to reach Delhi by 10:45 pm.
