The Beas River originates at an elevation of 3,960 metres (12,990 ft) in Rohtang Pass in the Punjab Himalayas of Himachal Pradesh. It flows south past Manali and through the Kullu Valley before entering the Punjab plains. It meets the Sutlej River near the Harike Wetland south of Amritsar. The Sutlej continues into Pakistani Punjab and joins the Chenab River at Uch near Bahawalpur to form the Panjnad River; the latter in turn joins the Indus River at Mithankot.The waters of the Ravi, Beas (Vipasha) and Sutlej (also known as Shathadru) rivers are allocated to India under the Indus Waters Treaty between India and Pakistan.

Day 1: Manali - Solang Valley (5 hrs, 2480m)

On the first day we will drive from Manali to old manali village. Commence your trek to Solang Nallah, through old Manali village which has the temple of the Sage Manu to mark his seat of Meditation. It takes about five hours to Solang Nallah.

Day 2: Solang - Dhundi - Bakar Thach (5-6 hrs 3300m)

Gradually ascending from the valley, the trail now passes through the small hamlet of Dhundi and continues to the scenic campsite at Bakar Thach. Overnight stay is at Bakarthach in camps.

Day 3: Bakar Thach - Bhoj Pather - Beas Kund (5-6 hrs 3690m)

Trek to Beas kund via Bhoj Patr. Bhoj Patr gets its name from the fact that the area has a lot of Bhoj Patr (birch) trees. Beas kund is a holy lake where Rishi Vyas used to take his daily bath. Beas kund is the origin of river Beas. Return to the camp in the evening.

Day 4: Bakar Thach - Solang Valley (5-6 hrs)

Drive from Solang valley back to Manali.

  • Sun Cap
  • Sun cream lotions
  • Personal Flash torch
  • Comfortable clothing/no formals
  • At least one warm Jacket & a sweater
  • Personal medicines
  • Binocular for wildlife viewing
  • Preferably ankle length trekking shoes
  • Personal sleeping bags (Optional)
