Elding Whale Watching

Whales are perhaps the most mysterious and fascinating of all creatures. Some of the best whale watching in the world is off the shores of Iceland, where ocean currents create excellent viewing conditions.

With decades of experience, Elding offers the most talked about whale watching tours in Iceland. Daily whale watching tours are offered all year round and they are conveniently located in the southern part of Faxafloi Bay, just off Reykjavik’s old harbor.

Elding brings you up close to whales and birds in their natural habitat. The drama, joy and poetry of these beautiful whales are seen on more than 95% of their tours. These whale watching tours are wildlife excursions and therefore each tour is unique. The whales often surface within a few meters from the boats due to strict observation of IceWhale’s codes of conduct for responsible whale watching. To ensure that the animals are not disturbed by their presence, they sail at a constant speed towards the whales' habitat. This also is part of their sustainability policy, trying to minimize oil use and pollution. Elding also is the first and only environmentally certified whale watching company in Iceland.

Elding's guides go through extensive training based on guiding principles exclusively developed for Elding by wildlife expert Janine Eaton. Guides provide entertaining and valuable information about the wildlife and the scenery. A successful whale watching tour is a team effort and the crew works closely together with the passengers on spotting the whales, making each tour an exciting and unforgettable experience. You can read about the proceedings of past tours in their online Whale Diary. English is spoken during the tours and other languages can be arranged upon request.

Iceland’s surrounding waters are as important as its land, and your trip to Iceland is not complete unless you’ve seen its beauty from the sea.
