Montmartre and Auvers-Sur-Oise with Pick Up from Hotel

The French call the five decades before World War I the Belle Époque, the ‘beautiful period’. It was a time when artists, poets, writers and musicians flocked to Paris, which was the creative capital of the world – and no movement captured this mood better than the impressionist painters.

Join us for a themed tour of the places that inspired them to paint their impressions of what they saw. Visit Montmartre for a guided tour of the narrow streets of this bohemian district. Artists such as Pissarro, Van Gogh, Matisse, Renoir, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, Picasso and Utrillo – who was born there – lived in Montmartre and painted daily scenes.

Continue with a visit to Auvers-sur-Oise, a village to the northwest of Paris that was a popular rural retreat for the impressionists. Daubigny, Cézanne and Van Gogh all settled here to paint nature in the open air. It was in this picturesque town that Van Gogh met his tragic end and is buried.

Lunch is at the Auberge Ravoux, Van Gogh's last dwelling, followed by an emotional visit to his room, No.5, which has been kept intact since he died. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided visit of the village, much of which has been immortalised by his paintings.
