With a population of 4,1 million, Alexandria is the second largest city in Egypt, extending about 32 km (20 mi) along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea in the north central part of the country. It is also the largest city lying directly on the Mediterranean coast. It is Egypt's largest seaport, serving approximately 80% of Egypt's imports and exports. Alexandria is also an important tourist resort. It is home to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (the new Library of Alexandria).
It is an important industrial center because of its natural gas and oil pipelines from Suez.
You will be transferred from your hotel in Cairo to Alexandria, known as «The Pearl of the Mediterranean», about 3 hours from Cairo. It is the most important city in Egypt after Cairo (often called the second capital) and one of the most popular Summer resorts in the Middle East. First we visit Pompay's Pillar. It was constructed in honor of the Emperor Diocletain at the end of the 4th century. Originally from the temple of the Serapis, it was once a magnificent structure rivaling the Soma and the Caesareum.
We then proceed to Qaitbay Citadel, which was built on the site of the ancient pharaohs (lighthouse) of Alexandria. Visit the catacombs which are the largest Roman cemetery consisting of three levels cut in the rock. Finally enjoy a visit to the Montazah Palace before we take you back to your hotel.
