South Galapagos Cruise 6 to 7 Days

The Southern Galapagos features the Islands of San Cristobal, Espanola and Floreana. These are the oldest islands of the Galapagos and have a wetter climate offering visitors a rich diversity of flora and fauna. Our cruise starts from San Cristobal where we will take a short hike to Cerro Tijeretas for a view of the islands and of the numerous Frigatebirds. Our journey continues overnight from San Cristobal to Isla Espanola which is famous for its beautiful beaches and it's Waved Albatross (April to December) one of the more spectacular birds in the entire chain. We continue from Espanola to Floreana to relax and swim among the turtles and reef fish, which include the impressive but harmless white tipped reef sharks. Isla Florena also hosts a small colony of penguins, which are sometimes observed. We will complete our circuit heading back to San Cristobal from Florena and making a final stop at the Highlands Tortoise Reserve to see the giant tortoises of the Galapagos before heading to the airport for your departure back to the mainland.

All of our cruise packages start and end in Quito and include your Galapagos flights.

Southern Galapagos Cruise Highlights:

* Note: All of our southern Galapagos itineraries include the following destinations. Specific itineraries vary depending on the number of cruising days.

Isla Floreana
This island is a paradise for relaxing and swimming among the turtles, reef fish, and white tipped reef sharks. Other exciting animal sightings on Isla Floreana include its small colony of penguins and dolphin pods that like to swim alongside the ship. Visit Cormorant Point, known for its green sand beaches that derive from the mineral olivine. Devil's Crown and Champion Islet are both excellent stops for snorkeling where you can swim alongside parrotfish, schools of stingrays, and acrobatic sea lions.

Espanola
On this island, you can enjoy the most pristine beaches of the Galapagos or its population of more than 1500 Galapagos tortoises. Suarez Point is the place to view the iguanas, boobies, and between April and December you can see the Waved Albatross’s only nesting site in the world. Not to mention the stunning blowhole formed by the ocean waves pounding into the basalt cliffs. Visitors to the island also enjoy Gardner Bay, an important breeding site for both Pacific green turtles and sea lions alike.

Santa Cruz
Any Galapagos cruise would not be complete without seeing El Chato Tortoise Reserve. It is the best place to observe them in their wild environment. Bird watchers will be happy to find that the forest is also home to short-eared owls, Darwin’s finches, Vermilion Flycatchers, Yellow Warblers, Galapagos Rails, and Paint-billed Crakes. The white beach of Tortuga Bay is another top destination in Santa Cruz due to its pristine waters. Be on the lookout for Galapagos sea lions, marine iguanas, or (seasonally) mating Pacific green turtles in the surf!
