Leave your Paphos hotel by air-conditioned coach and travel east toward the town of Nicosia. First stop is Fatsa Wax Museum, a gem of a gallery that details Cypriot history and culture through a collection of wax figurines. Enjoy roughly 45 minutes at leisure to browse the wax models, and see artifacts such as traditional wedding ceremony robes and samples of Lefkara lace (own expense).
Hop back on board your coach and travel to Pano Lefkara for a brief sightseeing stop. Once the island’s ancient capital, the village is now famous for its production of silverware and Lefkara lace, and your guide will explain the history of the local handicrafts as you walk around.
Continue to Cyprus’ current capital of Nicosia where sights of modern-day island life sit alongside historical streets, colonial buildings and history-rich churches. Head inside one of the city’s treasures, St John’s Cathedral, and admire its interiors while hearing all about its past. Built on the site of a Benedictine Chapel, the place of worship was founded as an Orthodox monastery before it was converted into a cathedral in the 18th century.
See the Presidential Palace, where Cyprus’ president resides, and pass the Venetian Walls to see the ‘green lines,’ the UN-named border that separates the island’s Turkish-occupied north with the Republic of Cyprus.
After a break for lunch (own expense), enjoy some free time to explore Nicosia Old Town and perhaps shop for lace or silverware to take home. Alternatively, use your time to visit Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia at your own expense. The museum documents Nicosia’s history from antiquity to the present day. Collections of artifacts and artwork are organized in chronological order, allowing you to see how the city developed through the ages.
Return to your coach at the agreed time, and then travel back to Paphos. Your day trip then finishes with a hotel drop-off in the early evening.
